Mohan Narayan Samanth

MNR Samant headed a covert warfare unit under the Directorate of Naval Intelligence. In the run up to the 1971 India-Pakistan war, Captain Samant conducted an eight-month long campaign of covert naval warfare against the army in East Pakistan. During the 1971 war, he led a gunboat raid into Bangladesh for which he was awarded India’s second highest gallantry award, the Maha Vir Chakra.
