Tim Whitmarsh

Writer & Historian

Tim Whitmarsh is A.G. Leventis Professor of Greek Culture at the University of Cambridge; he also holds honorary posts at the Universities of Exeter and Pretoria and at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. A well-known specialist in the ancient Greek and Roman worlds, he has appeared on BBC TV and radio and written widely for the Guardian, the Times Literary Supplement, the London Review of Books and other newspapers. His latest book, Battling the Gods: Atheism in the Ancient World, received widespread international media coverage and was shortlisted for the Runciman Award.
