Ranjita Biswas

Ranjita Biswas is a journalist, author and translator based in Kolkata. She has won the KATHA and other awards for her translation of fiction from Assamese to English. She received the Best Translation Prize, English from the Sahitya Akademi in 2017 for the book Written in Tears. She also writes travelogues, short stories and children’s fiction.

Arupa Patangia Kalita's fiction is a chronicle of the disturbing and searing history of decades-long aggression and hate that plagued Assam. In conversation with her translator Ranjita Biswas alongside author Aruni Kashyap, she speaks about the surreally beautiful landscape of Assam, the conflict that scarred it and the role of a writer in fraught times.
