Surjit Patar is a celebrated Punjabi poet. The range of his work includes very strict metres as well as blank and free dramatic verse. He is a recipient of the Pash Puruskar, the Bhartiya Bhasha Parishad Puruskar, the Anaad Award, MKS Award, D.Litt ( Honoris Causa), the Padma Shri and the Saraswati Samman.
