Stewart Gordon

Stewart Gordon is an independent scholar long associated with the Center for South Asian Studies, University of Michigan. Dr. Gordon is the author of The Marathas: 1600 – 1818, translated this year into Marathi, and several dozen articles on South Asian history. Recent writing includes When Asia was the World, A History of the World in Sixteen Shipwrecks, Shackles of Iron: Slavery Beyond the Atlantic and There and Back: Twelve of the Great Routes of Human History. He is currently writing a world history textbook for Oxford University Press based on seven themes common to all societies such as gender channeling, food and slavery.
