Sonam Wangchuk is the founding-director of the Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh. Wangchuk has been helping in designing and overseeing the construction of several passive solar mud buildings in mountain regions like Ladakh, Nepal and Sikkim so that energy savings principles are implemented on a larger scale. In January 2014, Wangchuk established a project called Ice Stupa which aimed at finding a solution to the water crisis being faced by the farmers of Ladakh.
