Simon Armitage is the Poet Laureate of the UK, and from 2015 to 2019 was Oxford University Professor of Poetry. He has published eleven collections of poetry, most recently Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic. His translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide. Armitage is the author of three bestselling memoirs. He is also a playwright, novelist, travel writer, broadcaster, librettist and writes and records with the band LYR. He is professor of poetry at the University of Leeds and in 2010 was made CBE for services to poetry.
