Robert Bickers is a historian of modern China and its relationship with the West. He grew up on Royal Air Force bases, studied in London, and has worked at the University of Bristol since 1997. He is currently a Professor of History at the University of Bristol and has authored six books, including China Bound: John Swire & Sons and Its World, Out of China: How the Chinese Ended the Era of Western Domination and Britain in China.
