Nasreen Munni Kabir is a renowned UK-based documentary filmmaker and the author of 20 books on Hindi film. Her latest publication is In the Year of the Sahir. Her television programmes made for Channel 4 TV, UK, include the series Movie Mahal, In Search of Guru Dutt, Follow that Star-profile of Amitabh Bachchan and the two-part programme, The Inner and Outer World of Shah Rukh Khan. She has also directed a profile on Bismillah Khan and the making of Bombay Dreams, the musical produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber for BBC Television, UK. Nasreen won the first Women of Achievement Award in Arts & Culture in 1999 for her promotion of Indian cinema in the UK, and became a Governor on the board of the British Film Institute in 2000, serving a six-year term. She continues to curate Channel 4's annual Indian cinema season.
