Michael Dwyer is Managing Director and Publisher at Hurst Publishers, London, which was established in 1969. Dwyer joined Hurst in 1985 after studying African history at SOAS, University of London, and working at Heffers Booksellers in Cambridge. His firm publishes some 75 books a year focussing on the politics, culture and history of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Hurst's authors include Shashi Tharoor, Ilhan Omar, Faisal Devji and Christophe Jaffrelot, to name a few. Two Hurst books have been shortlisted for the Orwell Prize in recent years: Gaiutra Bahadar's Coolie Woman and Alpa Shah's Nightmarch.
