Meeta Pandit belongs to the Gwalior Gharana and is the sixth in the unbroken lineage of legendary musicians. She is the first woman in the family to take up music professionally. The granddaughter and disciple of Padma Bhushan Krishnarao Shankar Pandit and daughter of Laxman Krishnarao Pandit, Pandit is a leading artist and has been invited to perform in more than 20 countries. A doctorate in music, she is a Top Graded artist of All India Radio. Prasar Bharati and Public Service Broadcasting Trust jointly made a film on her titled Meeta: Linking a Tradition with Today. She is a recipient of many awards and honours including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Bismillah Khan Award, the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award, the Jayprakash Narayan Award, the Sur Mani, the Yuva Ojaswini, the Yuva Ratna and the FICCI Award for music. She has also many albums to her credit.
