Manoranjan Byapari writes in Bengali. He has published twelve novels and over seventy short stories. Some of his important works include There's Gunpowder in the Air, Runaway Boy and the most recent Imaan and Nemesis. Until 2018, he worked as a cook at the Hellen Keller Institute for the Deaf and Blind in West Bengal. He has won and been shortlisted for several awards including the Hindu Prize for nonfiction, JCB Prize for literature and others. He was recently appointed chairman of the newly instituted Dalit Sahitya Akademi in Bengal. He is also a Member of the Legislative Assembly in West Bengal.
