WRITER, DOCTOR & HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST

Ma Thida is a Burmese medical doctor, writer, human rights activist and former prisoner of conscience. She was awarded several international human rights awards, including the Reebok Human Rights Award, the PEN/Barbara Goldsmith Freedom to Write Award, the Freedom of Speech Award and the Vaclav Havel’s Courageous Writer at Risk Award.

She was elected as the first president of PEN Myanmar in late 2013 and was elected as one of the board members of PEN International in 2016. She currently edits Info Digest journal.
