Jokha Al-harthi obtained her PhD in classical Arabic literature from Edinburgh University and works as associate professor in the Arabic department at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat. She is the author of Celestial Bodies, the first Arabic-language novel to win the Man Booker International Prize, among other works.
