Hariprasad Chaurasia

Hariprasad Chaurasia is one of India's most-respected classical musicians who has been honoured with several prestigious awards, including the National Award of the Sangeet Natak Academy, the Padma Bhushan, the Konarak Samman, the Yash Bharati Sanman and the Padma Vibhushan, among others. He has collaborated with several western musicians, such as John McLaughlin and Jan Garbarek, and has composed music for many Indian films. His official biography, Woodwinds of Change by Surjit Singh, was released by veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan in 2008. Pt. Chaurasia has been conferred the title of OFFICER IN THE ORDER OF ORANGE-NASSAU by the Government of the Netherlands and appointed as KNIGHT IN THE ORDER OF ARTS AND LETTERS by the Ministry of Culture, the Republic of France. He heads the World Music Department at the Rotterdam Music Conservatory in The Netherlands.
