Deepti Naval is an Indian film actor, director, writer, painter, and photographer. Her earlier works include a selection of poems, LAMHA LAMHA, which was published in the year 1981. Her second book of poems, Black Wind and Other Poems, was published in 2004. The Mad Tibetan: Stories From Then and Now was her first anthology of short stories and her most recent book is A Country Called Childhood. Naval is the first American-Indian woman to join Hindi films, and she made her debut in the year 1980 with the path-breaking movie Ek Baar Phir, for which she was awarded the Best Actor award. Since then, she has appeared in more than 90 films and has also worked as a director. She recently made her debut in theatre, with the poetic stage show, EK MULAQAAT, where she plays the celebrated Punjabi writer, Amrita Pritam.
