Deepa Bhasthi

Deepa Bhasthi is a writer and translator working in Kannada and English. Her essays, columns and journalism on the politics of culture have been published widely in national and international publications. Her translation of Kota Shivarama Karanth's novel The Same Village, The Same Tree was published in 2022. Her translation of the short stories of Kodagina Gouramma, one of the earliest feminist writers in Kannada in the 20th century, is set to be published in January 2023 by Yoda Press. She is currently working on translating the works of Banu Mushtaq, for which she is the recipient of a PEN Presents grant from EnglishPEN.
