Alexander Ellis

Alexander Ellis is the present British High Commissioner to India. Previously, he was Deputy National Security Adviser for the Integrated Review on diplomacy, development and defence. From 2017 to 2019, Ellis served as the Director-General of the Department for Exiting Europe. He was British ambassador to Portugal 2007–10 and Director of Strategy at the FCO 2011–2013 before being appointed ambassador to Brazil. Ellis has worked on the Government negotiation team on the euro, EU Budget framework, Treaty of the EU and EU Enlargement and has also worked on South Africa’s transition to multi-party democracy.
