Bruce Wannell, traveller and linguist, was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire and Oriel College, Oxford, has travelled widely in the Islamic world, lectured on Persian poetry, mysticism and music, and published on Islamic epigraphy and calligraphy with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, Kabul and the Metropolitan Museum, New York
