Barbara Engel is a Distinguished Professor at the University of Colorado, and writes about Russian and Soviet history. Living in the Soviet Union in 1985 and 1991, she witnessed Mikhail Gorbachev’s experiment in reform begin and then unravel. Among her publications are “A Revolution of Their Own: Voices of Women in Soviet History” and “Russia in World History”.
