Sonali Bendre's response to Cancer

At the Jaipur Literature Festival 2020, Sonali Bendre Behl opened up about the phase when she had to face cancer.  “It was a shock” - when Behl had been diagnosed with cancer, she was doing a show and the reason she put it out on her handle was because she did not wish for gossip to be spread about the reason why she was taking a break from work at that time.

The response that was received on the post was extremely shocking. After reading the comments, she realised that she had received responses from all strata of society - from villages to cities, from younger folks to the aged. Behl realized that there were many other people, apart from her, who were going through cancer and she also thought about how fortunate she was because of the support that her husband extended to her.

There were many who were not sharing if they had cancer with their near and dear ones because at the time, there was a stigma attached to it. “That just broke my heart…I felt I could survive it because of the family, the friends and the love that I got. If I did not share it - how would people know that I was going through it and give me that love?” said Behl. She asserted that we need to talk about it more and get frequent tests done because early detection can save lives
